What is your preferred method of communication?

The Credit Union has been notified of a current phishing attempt in the Topeka area. Two local members reported they received a call on their cell phones, shown as coming from 'unknown 206' on the caller ID. The call was a computer generated voice stating their debit card has been blocked from shopping purchases and ATM use, until the member contacts the security department by pressing 1. After pressing 1, the call instructed the member to enter their 16-digit card number. At this point, the member hung up, as they should. The Kansas Blue Cross Blue Shield Credit Union does employ vendors to provide fraud monitoring for our debit and credit cards, so you may receive a call from a person you don't know, but it will always be a person, not a computer. Also, DO NOT EVER give your card number to a caller; they will already have this information. You may be asked to verify the last few digits of the card or your SSN, but never the entire number. If you receive a call from a fraud monitor service, and are unsure, call the institution they represent to confirm.
